Browns praise Josh Gordon as they prepare to lose him

As the Josh Gordon debate lingers on, the Cleveland Browns are preparing to lose their marquee wideout for at least half the season.

Gordon has subjected himself to an indefinite suspension and he and his attorneys are standing on the foundation of a risky second-hand smoke platform.

Bill Clinton is on line two.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns love the guy and are happy to have him working hard in traing camp but they are preparing for life without him once the regular season starts.

The hope for a Gordon mid-season return lingers on and Gordon’s position coach Mike McDaniel went on the record to state that the former Baylor standout is delivering on the field.

“I try to stick to my job,” he said.”My job is to develop players, so it really hasn’t been an issue for me, and I just go and work on his craft with him. He’s been very diligent when he’s been here, and for the person, and for the whole team, we hope for the best and just wait for the process to get through itself and take care of itself.”

McDaniel also stated that Gordon can learn from this experience.

“In anything in life, things happen and you can be regretful, you can have a bunch of emotions,” he said.” At the end of the day, it’s how he responds. And you can use something like this to define you as a person and your character. Wherever the process leads, I hope that he uses all of this to improve himself as a man, just like you’d like you’ve want anybody to respond to any sort of tribulation.’

Gordon’s talent is obvious. It’s his decision making that will need some tweaking.

The odds are that he will miss a lot of quality time with whomever the primary trigger-puller ends up being in Cleveland.

That leaves the Browns with the mediocre Miles Austin as their scariest vertical threat.

Austin flashed for a brief period in Dallas but injuries and lackadaisical route running turned him into a liability there.

He can certainly rejuvenate his career in the Dog Pound.

But commonsense states that without Gordon and with Johnny “ Manziel most likely working his way up to the depth chart to keep jersey sales at a premium,  the Browns won’t do very much to challenge in the AFC North in 2014.
